The newest versions of FreeNas are requiring a min 2GB memory stick. What is the best way to migrate my current installation from my 1GB stick to a larger one? Can I install the latest version on a larger stick and then move the config file to it? Is there a better way?

Thanks.

If you're keeping the same version of FreeNAS 8.x, you can backup the current config, install FreeNAS on a new flash disk, and then import your old config.

I tried the same thing last night, except I used physdiskwrite to write the FreeNAS image to the new flash drive. Then I booted with the flash drive and imported the config. It was seamless.

1) Backup your configuration file.
2) Using your current version load the new memory stick.
3) Boot and import your original configuration file.
4) Make sure it all works and then upgrade to the latest version.

Keep your original stick until you know all is working then you can do with it whatever you like.
