Hi all,
I have a freenas box with 3 disks on z1. I use duplicity to backup all of my data on a single external usb disk. What I am doing now is connect the usb as a dedicated pool in order to let freenas recognise the disk and mount it in a jail for the backup.
question is: can I still retrieve my data from the usb disk with my key when the freenas box fails? Since the disk is a pool now, does it depend on freenas to function, or can I plug it in on another machine and read the data?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Vic

You would be able to import the backup pool using any OS with a compatible version of ZFS. Could be FreeBSD, some Linux distros, and a few other possibilities. To maximize portability, create the backup pool with all features disabled.
