Backup Error: Storage not online on Proxmox.

Hello,

I’m using the NFS from TrueNAS to provide storage to my Proxmox hosts. Every night, some of the backups fails stating the storage wasn’t online. The NFS server is online 24/7.

I’d increase the amount of server gradually, now I’m at 256 which is the maximum amount, in despite of that the issue is still happening.

Is there something that I need to do to make everything works? I’m using the latest version of TrueNAS and when my Proxmox are making backups to TrueNAS NFS, the TrueNAS is not heavily loaded, the load is pretty normal.

These are the TrueNAS machine specs:

Intel(R) Celeron(R) G5905 CPU @ 3.50GHz
16GB DDR4
1GB Ethernet (admin)
2x 1GB Ethernet (data)

If more detailed or specifics specs are required, please just ask.

Need help please.

Regards,

Guillaume

Motherboard and NIC details would be useful... if it's not Intel NICs, you may have the answer already.

That NIC looks suspiciously cheap and also with that combination of motherboard and CPU, you're only getting 1Gbit of bandwidth between the 2 NICs. (I'm not even sure that would change with any other combination, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it would work as a PCIe gen4 X1 card)

can you share the output from dmesg | grep -E "em0|em1|igb"

I suspect you'll either be better to run it with only 1 of the 2 NICs enabled or trash it and get a proper one.

I'd make the output available here as it is very long.

Also I wish to add that I do have a workstation running Linux Mint 20.3 Una that I'd connect-to remotely using thin clients. That LM machine is making a snapshots every night at 0:00, that snapshot get packed into a .tar and that .tar file get directly written on a NFS share coming from the same TrueNAS machine hosting the backup space for the Proxmox servers. The process is going every night without missing an hearth beat.

I'd spaced the backups of those Proxmox machines so the first one occurring at 1AM, the second at 2AM but, they sometimes overlapping, if the one at 1AM isn't done at 2AM as example.

I will kept the backups spacing in place but, will try using only one of the two ports to see if it could help.

Thank-you

Guillaume
