I've been reading about how snapshots and replication works, and it seems like if I replicate to another FreeNAS system, I will eventually build up a snapshot history on the backup destination.

My question is, what if I've got a history (say a couple months) of automated snapshots, and I want to backup the whole thing now? Let's say I do the backup today to another system for the first time, and tomorrow not only does my pool evaporate somehow and I need to restore files, but I want to restore files as they were a month ago in one of the snapshots? Does replication or zfs send/receive handle this somehow?

Thank you!

You have access to all the snapshots you sent. Might be fewer, the same or even more (using bookmarks) than locally. They're exactly the same as they would be on the sending side - you can mount them read-only or clone them and read-write.
