Where are you getting that the mini-sas are from lynx point? They are LSI based, the board has an LSI controller onboard. The Intel chipset has a mini-sas that only goes to sata.

Who are you asking?

I understand 2 of the SFF-8087 ports come from the onboard LSI 2308, the specifications obviously even say this. I'm wondering where the third SFF-8087 comes from though.

It is my understanding that the third is basically just working as a sata pass-through for the Intel chipset. Instead of having 4 more sata ports they just added that with a splitter, it doesn't work with SAS it only works as an expander to sata.

That could be. That's why I was asking if the other guy was implying the 3rd SFF-8087 was the Lynx Point controller which is Intel. Lynx point is the Haswell Intel chipset SATA controller.

That is exactly what I am implying, since I am using SATA for my build I see no issue with this. The server this motherboard is designed for sports (12) 3.5" SATA drives +2 2.5" sata drives for boot. I am more or less planning on using it in the same configuration.

In case anyone is interested in using this board, it will not boot a 9.2 image successfully. 10.0 Alpha boots and works fine, but after some searching and digging, the incompatibility with Lynx Point chipset prevents it. I have tried disabling USB3 in the bios to no avail. Other than this, it's a pretty nice board. I am waiting on the rest of my parts for my build, i will update with some performance #'s when I complete it.

Sorry that it took so long but I finally measured it. It will fit just fine. There is at least 5cm to the bottom of the case. I have some sound dampening material in the case so I wasnt able to measure it precisely but it will fit very comfortably.
