As much I want to use FreeNAS

As much as I want to use Freenas the sheer nightmare of getting plugins to work is keeping me on OMV :(
I've even thought about still using freenas and just using my Pi to run Sabnzbd, Sickbeard and BTsync. But that brings even more hassle.

Pity there isn't a pre-configured version of Freenas with those plugins installed and ready to go.

I'll keep trying to get it to work but for a raletive n00b it'll take a while.

If you could configure a Pi with all of this stuff, you could do in a Jail too. Focus in a Jail like a Virtual Machine, or OpenVZ container, it's just a "new_machine" with an IP. Forget "plugins". Enter in the Jails Shell and start from scratch to install all the stuff, using "ports" or "the package system".
