Are the error messages displayed on the terminal stored somewhere?

When I boot up FreeNAS 9.1 and I get to the Console Setup which displays a menu of choices from 1 to 11 there are intermittently error messages that appear and scroll down the screen. Likewise when I'm in shell. Are these messages saved in a log somewhere? If so where? If not is there a way to get them saved to a log?

Yeah, they should be logged in /var/log/messages
