Are SLOG device per pool?

Hi,

I have 2 pools on my system.
Pool1 is 24x SSD (8vdev 3mirror for VMs storage)
Poll2 is 12x HDD (2x 6vdev in raidz2 for backup storage)

I want better performance on my NFS share and thinking of introducing a pair of SLOG device for redundancy. Do I need to get 4x drive in total? 2x for pool1 and 2x for pool2 or I can use the same drive across both pool?

Thank you

No, SLOG VDEVs are per pool.

If you want things to be supported and not need to resort to CLI for the setup and management, yes, you'll need to have separate SLOG per pool.

If you are prepared to work at the CLI and deal with some "unexpected" consequences where the GUI doesn't understand what you're doing with the SLOGs, then you can do it yourself and have it shared on the same drives.

Of course there's the potential for a performance hit to one or both of the pools when you do that too...
