If so, are you running 64gb of RAM? I've been planning a FreeNas build now for awhile. I've decided on this Asrock board. I can't afford to put all 64gb in it right now, but I was hoping to get one 16gb stick to get started.

Looking through Asrock's list of memory vendors, I found the list to be pretty sparse. So I'm just hoping to find someone else running 16gb modules, and which ones they are using? I see newegg carries Kingston, Crucial, and Samsung 16gb modules.

My last question is, will I be taking a performance hit to run just one stick for now? The machine shouldn't require two sticks to run, correct?

None of those brands has 16GB UDIMMs. That board only takes UDIMMs.

16GB UDIMMs are rare, insanely priced and are not made by reputable manufacturers.

If you want 64GB RAM, get a Xeon E5 system. It's cheaper. AFAIR 1300EUR for a E5-1620v3, board and 4x16GB registered DDR4 versus 1700EUR for the Avoton with 4x16GB UDIMMs.

On top of that the Marvell controllers on the ASRock aren't playing nice with FreeNAS.
