At first glance, it's a standard 2-pin (no tach, no PWM) fan header on a cable. But it's connected to +5V, so some specialty fan or a low-noise adapter of some kind?

The connector looks smaller than a fan header, and the shape doesn't match either. I guess it's for something more specialized, like a DOM for example.

Yep, it was just an example. Maybe it's for a special DOM/SSD/RAM/whatever drive, or maybe it's for a management circuit of some sort, or maybe...

It's a STAT DOM power connector. Looks just like the one that cam with my SATADOM, well the DOM end of the plug anyway.

You can use that power connector for a number of things, maybe lighting a Power On LED, or as others have stated, a DOM, or other items which require 5VDC. It's actually nice that it was included, even if you have no use for it. If you can't use it, a little heat shrink tubing would make it safe inside the case.

It's kind of hard to see from the blurry pic posted but there is nothing exposed on that connector. The image below should show it a little better.

I see now that the blurry picture made those exposed crimped receptacles look like tiny pins. :p

Yeah, sorry for the blurred pic. My phone's camera completely refused to focus on the connector.

So it's probably meant for powering a SATA DOM. The documentation that comes with this case (Supermicro SC101i) is pretty useless. Fortunately this is not my first build :)
