Hello all-
I'm interested in getting AirVideoServer installed.

I found this-
http://wiki.idefix.fechner.net/index.php/FreeBSD-AirVideo

But the directions in part one... 'the easy ones' are not working in that I get to the 'make' part of the commands- and i get errors galore.

So I moved on to the more complicated directions- with the same plethora of errors.

I'm hoping / looking for someone who has set this up and maybe 'hold my hand' through the process.

Thanks in advanced.

Hmmm, now someone understands my pain with ffmpeg! This tutorial doesn't look too terrible, but there are probably some tweaks to get it to work with FreeNAS. ffmpeg is definitely the major hurdle, the newest version doesn't want to build in a jail, and the most recent version before that (7.13), people have reported it doesn't stream video correctly or at all. All I know is that until it plays nice with the FreeBSD 8.0 jail, a lot of plugins that depend on it won't work.

Step #3 you should be able to just type "make config" and then check off the options instead of doing that ugly command line, and then just do "gmake install clean".

Step #6, there's a LOT more to that step than is shown there.

This definitely looks like a good candidate for a plugin, its just the ffmpeg part that's ruining the show. I pretty much gave up on Serviio in large part because of HOURS & HOURS of trying to get that to build correctly without success.

Has anyone had success with getting the AirVideoServer going?

Maybe we can get a poll going to see those who would be interested in an AirVideoServer plugin. May help with getting someone who's a genius at this to make the plugin?

When I get some more time I'll give it a try, just not with ffmpeg-011. I'm not sure when I'll have more time, but I'll play around with it.

I was just taking a quick look at this and it looks like the newest version is 2.46-Beta, I noticed in the install notes above that it was using an Alpha version.

I'll start playing with making this a plugin soon, just gathering details and resources at the moment.

Just a note, once I convert this into a plugin, I don't want to support & maintain it, so someone will need to figure out what I've done and learn. ;)

I've been working on a plugin the last 4 or 5 days, haven't made much progress yet though. It just takes time to rebuild the plugin after each time you make a change. If things go better, I could have soemthing to test in another few days. I've never used it or have a way to test it, so I'll post back when I have something to test.

Just an update.

I've had to put this on hold while I do some repairs on my truck. Might be another week before I can work on it again.

@protosd - I'd like to help with this .. how far did you get / what was holding you up?

This is literally the only thing keeping me from using freeNAS on my main fileserver, as I have grown accustomed to this app running on my server.

Thanks for all the work, and I hope your truck is back to working order

Thanks, truck is fixed, but I've still just been having a sting of tough luck.

This plugin should have been a mostly simple rebuild with minor adjustments to the Serviio plugin. I probably compiled it at least 30 times and couldn't even get it to appear in the GUI. It's probably just easier to install the dependency packages in the jail and do it manually. The current jail is based on FreeBSD 8.0 which is quickly becoming outdated if not so already. Its not really worth spending time trying to get it to work since after FreeNAS 9.x comes out the plugins will need to be rebuilt and 8.x plugins won't be compatible.

So any new on how to get Air Video Server on FreeNAS?

The prebuild jail for 8.0.4 link is down. (http://forums.freenas.org/showthrea...l-for-FreeNAS-8-0-4/page2&highlight=air+video)

The closest thing to a how-to I found, that wasn't years old was: http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=documentation:howto:airvideoserver

If it doesn't make sense to create a plugin, then a how-to would be more than welcome.
Air Video Server is Brilliant for serving media over the Internet. With an app for iOS and the Mirage app for Android, it would make a lot of users happy.
Some of us have a decent CPU in our build, I would love to challenge it :)

Edit:
Found this: http://www.inmethod.com/forum/posts/list/180/1856.page#29103
I don't know if this is relavant, since FreeNAS isn't based on FreeBSD 9.
