After FreeNAS update - save to boot from previous boot environment?

I upgraded from 11.1 to 11.2 with only small problems (bootflags due to the HPE hardware). Unfortunately i forgot to backup some scripts running as cron-jobs in 11.1 that i would use on 11.2 also. The scripts have been in the /root folder that is now empty in 11.2.

During installation i used the option "Install in new boot environment", and i can see the different boot environments i have on my SSD in System/Boot-Environments.

What's now the best way to access the previous boot environment and copy some files out of the /root folder?

I have some fear to activate the previous boot-environment and reboot to it, or is this the recommended procedure?

I have not updated the ZFS pool to the new features.

If you haven't upgraded your pools, I don't see any problem with booting to the older version, grabbing your scripts, then rebooting into the current version.

Do boot environments survive the change of boot loader?

For absolute clarity can someone please confirm if boot environments survive the change of boot loader?
Have people rolled back from 11.2 to 11.1 (as long as the pool hasn't been upgraded)?

This works fine. Given there are a number of issues with 11.2, I would suggest you avoid upgrading the pool so that you have the flexibility to revert to 11.1 at a later date if you need to.
