I am new to network attached storage and freenas. I want to get my feet wet with freenas.
I have old computer which I want to turn into freenas.
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA Z68A-D3H-B3 1155 socket
CPU i3 2105 sandybridge processor.
8GB Non ECC RAM 2GBX2 g skills rip jaws 240 pin DDR3 1600 pc312800, 4GB CORSAIR Vengeance 240 pin DDR3 1600 PC3 12800
1 TB Hard drives x3
120 SSD Samsung
I want to do RAID Z1
My aim of this freenas box is to able to store music, movies,pictures and also backup my MacBook Pro by time machine.
I appreciate valued input.
I hear that non ECC RAM is not good. But I would like to understand how freenas work before I put more money into it building it.
Also if I plan to upgrade motherboard, ram processor in future keeping same Zpool or hard drive.
I went to the PowerPoint of cyber jock it is very nice and good.
