I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me with my previous questions here.

I finally have my NAS set up thanks to all your fantastic help!

I have one drive in my NAS box I set it to 'striped' and ZFS I am not sure if selecting striped was the right thing to do?

I labeled the drive WD-Red-Disc-1 but I am wondering when I add a second disc for more data will it take on the same name because that might make them hard to identify should one need replacing if it develops a fault

I'm asking this question as I previously and briefly I used NAS4Free which when I was setting it up it was getting me to create pools and virtual drives/volumes and all sorts of other weird and wonderful things.

I hope you can continue to support and help me and shed some light on my current situation.

Thank you all so much.

If your disks are striped you don't have to care about the naming. If any disk fails in your pool you will lose the entire pool.

OK in that case sound like I might have the wrong set up can you help me further please?

I aim to have 4 x 2TB disk in my NAS Box

I want the set up as follows

2 x 2TB (4TB in total) as a data drive & 2 x 2tb (4TB in total) as a mirror of the data.

Can I achieve this with my current set up?

I currently have 1 x 2 TB in the machine at the moment the next 2tb drive I get I want to mirror the first drive.

I will then add another 2TB 'data' drive. Do I just choose to extend WD-Red-Disc-1?

Finally I will get the last drive to add as and additional mirror.

It sounds like striping isn't the best option for me. If one of the data drives went down I'd like to replace it. Should I not set them up as a 'pool' and set them up as two individual drives, so each one has it's own mirror.

Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
