Adding a hard drive to RAIDZ2 volume

Well, I'm running out of storage space a bit faster than I thought. Does FreeNAS yet support adding a hard drive to a RAIDZ2 volume?

I only see one posting on this topic from over a year ago so thought I'd ask it again.

No, it's not possible. Its a technical restriction imposed by ZFS. You can only add another zvol to your pool. If you want to get into more details, you should have a look at this presentation to understand how ZFS works.

Warri is, of course, totally correct.

Your options are:

1) Create another pool.
2) Create another vdev with new disks, and stripe it into the existing pool.
or
3) Replace each drive in the pool with one of higher capacity. Once all drives are upgraded, the new capacity will be realized.

These options are all spelled out in the various documentation etc.
