Added a VDEV, Now what?

Hi all,

Another noon question that I can't quite figure out. I have a striped pool and I added 2 disks to it through a vdev but now what?

Do I need to use the Expand Pool option to rebalance the data onto all the drives? Or will that happen automatically in the background?

No and no.

You can only balance the data by re-writing it all.

Either move data between datasets on the same pool or move it all elsewhere and back again. (paying attention to shapshots... which would need to be removed if they exist).

ok, thanks for that. In that case then when is the Expand Pool option used?
