Hello, I am (trying) to set up a FreeNAs box based on

- Supermicro H8DAi-2 + 32G ECC DDR2-800 (6 SATA ports)
- LSI 9266-4i HBA (4 SATA ports), flashed

the aim would be to set up a 10-HDDs WD RED 6TB RAIDZ2

as a boot drive, I'd use a Samsung EVO attached to an Adaptec 2405 (I have this recycled piece of HW). I know that Adaptec is evil with ZFS, but can I use this controller just to attach the boot drive since all other SATA ports will be used to connect the 10 HDD for ZFS array?

Thank you for any suggestion,

Giancarlo

It doesn't support IT mode, the best it'll do is mrsas. Sell it, buy a real HBA and pocket the difference.

That's going to be a nasty experience. Extremely power hungry, extremely loud, extremely incompatible and buggy (Nvidia chipset? Let's not even talk about it).

It can't hurt you too much, but you may find it to be painful enough to try something else.
