Morning

I have setup TrueNAS AD Service, its connectted, all seems well but

Am i understanding it correctly that currently AD users cannot manage the GUI and im still just to use the root user account for management of the system

Correct. The only administrator account is "root". This is by design.

There are at least 2x other ways. You can reserve the local root account for emergency admin access to the TrueNAS UI. The alternatives are:
  • Install TrueCommand or TrueCommand Cloud, and use that to manage TrueNAS. This can use an AD group to restrict logins to TrueCommand and to restrict actions within TrueCommand. This is the easier option.
  • Use AD to control SSH logins and sudo permissions. Extremely savvy admins can then manage TrueNAS via SSH to TrueNAS, sudo within their session, to run midclt call API commands. This is the really geeky option.
