Hi,
I’ve inherited an old FreeNAS server at work. It’s about five years old, well spec’d 2x Xeon CPU, 48GB RAM, supermicro mobo, 36 drives with around 50TB of storage, 10GB networking. It’s working like a champ, but on FreeNAS v9. Given that 12 is out now, it’s long overdue an upgrade.
So looking at the docs, I made a backup of the settings, installed a new 32GB USB stick (internally in the mobo), installed TrueNAS 12 and uploaded the settings.
It all seemed to work, until I got to the Windows Domain connection. It just won’t connect to my windows domain, which means the samba shares won’t work, which is kinda the point of the box.
The UI gives a “Faulted” status, I’ve hunted around but not found much in the way of solution.
I tried again with 11.3 and 11.2 which do the same thing. However with 11.1 it “just works”, it connected to the domain, and the samba shares came online. There is another slight glitch in that the Cron Jobs doesn’t work properly, adding a job or updating an existing job can’t be saved as it says the Root user is invalid. Again, I haven’t found much help online with this either apart from updating FreeNAS.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what I’m missing here? Presumably lots of FreeNAS boxes are connected to domains to serve Windows users?
Cheers,
Lee
