Hi:

I'm about to change my freenas from current case to a new fractal design R3 case. Should i keep track of the order of the disks? I remember read somewhere that freenas did not care about that. Here is my pool status, just in case:

%zpool status
pool: volume1
state: ONLINE
scrub: none requested
config:

Disk order is irrelevant for ZFS, unless you boot from one of them.

Hi jfr2006,

I don't know that keeping track really matters, but it seems silly not to take the opportunity that's coming with the case move to be sure you can actually identify each drive correctly for when you actually need to replace one. You might also want to look into why one of the arrays is using the "gptid"\ why the naming is different for each array.

Hi:

I think de difference in the names has to do with de version in each one of them was created. Since I'm always compiling new versions, volume1 was created with a previous version and volume2 with a more recent one.

Regards.

Hi jfr2006,

I think you are correct, there have been some changes to how disks are named since 8.0 came out. There are a few threads on how to get them corrected in here somewhere.
