I updated to 9.3 on my headless Freenas system and waited out the reboot. But when the system didn't come back online, I attached a monitor and discovered that there was a grub error, and going into GRUB recovery mode. Apparently normal.mod can't be found?

I'm no GRUB expert, can anyone offer some help on how to get back to rights?

That looks like the boot device is going offline during bootup, as is evidenced by the ada4 peripheral being destroyed.

I'd recommend you try doing an install of 9.3 from ISO first and if that doesn't work try a different CF card. To be honest I've had very poor success with CF+adapters so I don't personally recommend them. I know for a fact that all of the SD/SDHC/XDHC adapters seems to suck horribly, which is why the manual specifically recommends against them.

Well, CF is an excellent choice for those whose servers are old enough to have IDE ports. Anything else, and gremlins show up - PATA/SATA adapters seem to universally suck, for some reason.

Come to think of it, my Nehalem motherboard still has an IDE controller...
