A lot of people have been having issues with 9.10.1-U1. I noticed today that there are updates being called 9.10.1-U2. Anyone given it a go? How is it?

I updated my secondary server from 9.10.1-U1. No problems so far, but it's a very simple system and it didn't have any trouble with -U1 either.

I have moved my system over to U2 and have had no problems at all since the move, in fact it fixed all my U1 issues!

I just finished installing U2 on one of my units. After the installation and reboot, EVERYTHING is SLOW. Here are the specs on my hardware:

Dell R710
Dual Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5570 @ 2.93GHz
144 GB RAM
(1) 1 TB SSD for Cache
(1) 1 TB SSD for Logs
(4) 4 TB SATA Disks in RAIDZ2.
(1) 1 Gb MGMT NIC
(2) 1 Gb iSCSI NIC's

The OS is installed on Dual 16 GB USB Drives that are mirrored and healthy.

There are no errors on my switch, but the system as a whole runs crazy slow. It doesn't matter if I am navigating the menus or trying to upload a file to one of the drives, it's crazy slow. I have a second unit that is almost identical that is running U1 and I copied a 5 GB ISO to each Drive from my laptop and the U2 one took 10 minutes to upload, the U1 one took 1 minute to upload the file. Both of these systems are on the same switch.

I'm not sure what sort of diagnostics I should run or what the next steps are, but this system was running fine before I updated it.

Oh, here's another small piece of info, I went from straight 9.10 to U2, so I didn't update to U1 prior to jumping to U2...

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can check to see why the performance is so slow?

Here's a quick update. It's been an hour since I installed the update. The system appears to be more responsive now. I'm not sure if it was caused by some cleanup work that needed to be performed after the upgrade, but everything appears to be working properly now.

I updated a few hours ago. Everything seems to be working EXCEPT my all my plugins!
They show up in the plugins menu as on, and they are working but they refuse to show up in the navtree in the WebGUI. Also my console is constantly spammed with JSON errors.

Code:
Oct 4 21:33:54 Schimmel-NAS manage.py: [freeadmin.navtree:631] An error occurred while unserializing from http://10.0.1.10/plugins/btsync/1/_s/treemenu: No JSON object could be decoded
Oct 4 21:33:54 Schimmel-NAS manage.py: [freeadmin.navtree:631] An error occurred while unserializing from http://10.0.1.10/plugins/plexmediaserver/2/_s/treemenu: No JSON object could be decoded
Oct 4 21:33:54 Schimmel-NAS manage.py: [freeadmin.navtree:631] An error occurred while unserializing from http://10.0.1.10/plugins/mineos/3/_s/treemenu: No JSON object could be decoded
Oct 4 21:33:54 Schimmel-NAS manage.py: [freeadmin.navtree:631] An error occurred while unserializing from http://10.0.1.10/plugins/crashplan/4/_s/treemenu: No JSON object could be decoded

Maybe this is a known issue that I don't know about?

I'm getting Grub rescue mode post update, T-shooting now

Update: Going to have to wait until I get home. Will probably restore from backup.

Upgraded test FreeNAS to 9.10.1-U2. Graphical management interface didn't come back, nginx error log doesn't give a clue. NFS shares didn't come back either. Now investigating.

I'm not sure yet whether my case really means a bug, or this is due to misconfiguration.

But if it was working, and you just ran the update, and then it wasn't, then the update is buggy.

End of story.

I just attempted to update from 9.3.1-20160415 (which has been rock-solid for me) to 9.10.1-U2. The system failed after reboot ending at a mountroot> prompt. I'll attempt to gather more details and submit a bug.

This bug has been submitted, including a video of the console with the failed boot:

https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/18104

I was able to boot back to my 9.3.1 environment and that is still fine. Staying there for now.

This turned out to be my own dumb fault - had a leftover freenas-boot volume on an extra disk that was interfering with the upgrade process. I have successfully upgraded to 9.10.1-U2 now.

Reminds me when the then beta 9.10 booted the FreeBSD environment, but then loaded the FreeNAS 9.3 components. That was a... fascinating moment.
