I have created a 10 drive FreeNAS raidz2 with 8 disk connected to M1015 and 2 disk connected to the motherboard. My question will mixing SATA connection cause problem?

mobo: Supermicro X10SDV-4C-TLN2F
HBA: M1015 flashed to LSI 9240-8i IT
RAM: 32GB
disk: Hitachi 8TB

While we are on the subject of my build, will 32GB of RAM be sufficient if I only use it as a file server?

EDIT: I meant to say IBM M1015 flashed to LSI 9240-8i IT

No. Not sure what you mean by M1050, but I'm assuming you mean an LSI HBA of some sort.

Most likely. If after a while, you're not happy with your ARC hit ratio, then consider increasing RAM. X10SDV supports 128GB.

Thanks,

I just use the basic FreeNAS feature, i.e. backup and file share for 1 user, "me". The hit ratio is currently 31%. Is this acceptable? I have order more RAM, but if the current 32GB of RAM with a hit ratio of 31% is acceptable then I prefer to use the extra RAM for other purposes.

If you're happy, its fine.

I think the SAS controller is better, but there should be no problem with mixed connectivity to the drives.
