I have a 32-bit freenas 8.0.4 setup on a thumb-drive with 2 disks (details below). Since my hardware is 64-bit and I have 5 GB RAM, I flashed FreeNAS-8.2.0-RELEASE-p1-x64.img.xz to a new 8GB thumb-drive, and put it in place of my existing 8.0.4 thumb-drive. It booted up fine and I could access the 8.2 GUI, but I couldn't import all my volumes. Once I import any one of the volumes from a disk, the "Import Volume" screen doesn't list the other volumes from that disk. For example, if I import ada1p4, none of ada1p{1,2,3,5} are available in the "Import Volume" screen.

So I'm back to my 32-bit 8.0.4 setup for now.

What did I do wrong? Sorry if this has already been covered, but my search for strings like "cannot import multiple volumes from same disk" in forums and support.freenas.org didn't bring up anything relevant.

Anybody? Or does my question not make any sense at all? FWIW, I have the same problem with 32-bit freenas 8.2-p1 as well.

I looked into /var/log/*, especially /var/log/messages, but didn't find anything relevant (as far as I can tell). I am not at all familiar with freenas or FreeBSD. If more diagnostic information would help understand my case, please let me know what, and how to get it.

Thanks,
Saurav.

Your question makes sense to me. Currently I don't think FreeNAS supports importing multiple partitions on the same disk. The best thing you can do is to open a ticket at support.freenas.org. There it's more likely a developer will see your problem and fix it, or tell you another way to do it.

I'll open a ticket at support.freenas.org.

Currently I don't think FreeNAS supports importing multiple partitions on the same disk.

Did you mean the 8.2 release? Because 8.0.4 release does let me import multiple partitions, and share them via CIFS. That's how I've been using it since a few months now.

Thanks,
Saurav.

I have same problem of you. I just install a 8.2 release, and add 2 3TB hdd in there. I have manual to create 3 zpool volumes, and export them. Then, in the WebGUI, first time, i can show all created volume. After auto import any volume, WebGUI can't list other volume. I had try at 8.0.4 and 8.2.
Any solution here, pls help.

sorry, my english is very poor.

I tried the x86 build for freenas 8.2 again last night, and this time I was able to import my volumes. Actually, the volumes were automatically imported once I restored my settings from 8.0.4 to 8.2 and rebooted. I think what I might have missed earlier is saving/restoring the config db, or may be I had restored too old a version of my settings.

Sorry about the false alarm!

Regards,
Saurav.
