So, long story short, the main problem in here is the different brands, capacity and model of the hard drive?
Not the brand. FreeNAS and ZFS don't care about brand. The problem is the small capacity and the mix of sizes. You can't use random sized drives in a storage array; they need to be the same size.

...and if you do use random sizes, the size of the smallest disk will control.

@boy2little, you aren't going to get a new system suitable for FreeNAS for 200 Euro all in. There isn't anything on the market in .us that will do this, and our availability and pricing tend to be quite a bit better than in .eu. Even doing it used will be a stretch. If you have to stay under 200 Euro including drives, you should really be considering other OSs.

200 € is simply not doable outside of a very good one-time deal on ebay or something.
