Hi,

I am looking to build a NAS ideally with bits I have laying around for homelab use.

I have 1 x Dell r900 128gb ram and 1 x Dell r905 128gb ram a couple of LSI 9211-8i from a previous napp-it build on different hardware but no longer have the mobo or CPU from that build.

The fans have been switched out for a more reasonable dB level.

Would the above hardware work and if any preference between the models? If so, I would like to add more drives 3.5 sata but no idea what expansion unit controllers would work that are reasonably priced.

Thank you in advance.

Not an expert but I say, throw it all together and see what happens. I don't see an issue with the LSI 9211-8i as long as it flashed in IT mode. I'm using 2 Dell R630s with PERC's in IT/HBA Mode and they are solid as a rock and I beat the crap out of them. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the reply, I will give it a go. I should have a R720 in a little while which should be less power hungry to migrate it too.
