11.2 BETA1 installer crash / hang

I have been on 9.10 for years and decided to do a fresh install to 11.2 BETA1 tonight.

I have to install from usb as I have no CD drive.

Every time I turn the machine on it only gets as far as a grey screen with some text. (see attached pics )

Each boot the text cuts off at different points making me think the system is crashing.

I have tried using rufus and win32diskimager to create the usb

I have updated my bios and restored defaults, I have tried different usb sticks, different usb ports, rewrote the usb about 10 times.

I tried 11.1-U5 and that worked instantly

Any ideas anyone ?

I have the exact same problem and did almost exactly the same troubleshooting as you.
What exactly do you mean you installed from an old CD drive?
Are you saying your machine is now booting from a CD drive?
It seems like there is no way to do a fresh install for 11.2.
Maybe I should try a Mac?
Also coming from 9.10.
Web upgrade from that to 11 went fine.
But 11 to 11.2 upgrade failed, twice.
2 different errors, none of which I was able to figure out precisely what might've happened other than possibly having an improper shutdown, which was not the case.

Well, my trusty 2008 MBP was what I needed apparently.
I don't have a CD/DVD drive and really didn't want to buy one.
The user guide for OSX on a usb stick did the trick.

I fresh installed 11.2 BETA2 today and had the same problem again.

I haven't burned this many CD's since the 90's

My install attempt just went to a black screen then reboot. I attempted several ways to create the USB bootable device without any luck. Had to go to the old writable DVD portable drive to get it going. I didn't have such problems with any of the 11.1 builds.

I think they know about the problem now and a fix is planned for either BETA3 or RC1.
