So the Excrement has impacted the rotating air extractor.

In a fit of forgetfulness/lack of caffeine I triggered a Transmission update and it appears to have not installed the new version leaving the Plugin but not the jail broken. I still can't install any plugins either. OwnCloud doesn't suffer from this as you can update itself from inside the jail by itself with a bit of permission twiddling.

At this point I'm not really interested in how the system got to this state, but fixing it. Can someone tell me the idiots guide to re-installing just the plugins related packages so I can get this working again? Failing that is there a way of effectively re-install the current STABLE version that leaves the plugin jail contents unmolested?

I am unfortunately short on time to futz with things at the moment.
Lol, so the update didn't get applied? What version do you have installed then? Did you try restarting the jail?

I can't remember. The current version lists as 2.84_2, so whatever the stable version was before then.

Restarting the jail, rebooting, all the usual troubleshooting suspects have been tried. The installation template are FUBAR'ed and need to be re-installed.

Running:
root@transmission_1:/ # /usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/control.py start 192.168.NNN.MMM PPPPP
/usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/control.py: import: not found
/usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/control.py: import: not found
/usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/control.py: import: not found
/usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/control.py: import: not found
from: can't read /var/mail/flup.server.fcgi
/usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/control.py: 8: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
root@transmission_1:/ #

(Where N, M, and P are anonymized) suggests that some important parts of Transmission are missing.

to verify if your jail template is the problem can you try installing a second instance of transmission?

one idea, is if that works, is to copy over your /usr/transmission-amd64/etc/transmission/home directory.

going to try to make this a bit cleaner when 2.85 comes out. but hopefully the above can get you up and running.

I can't install any plugin right now (template missing error), and the only template showing up is the manual installed VirtualBox. It's thus not a Transmission-specific problem, but OwnCloud, and Transmission are the only plugins I have installed.

What I really need is idiot instructions to re-install the templates and probably all the plugin packages too.

you could backup your plugins metadata. /media for owncloud, and the previous directory I mentioned for transmission. try deleting your plugins, jails, then delete your jails dataset. I think the template is stored somewhere there.

then when you install a new plugin it should redownload the template. this is my theory 8/

Um, you wrote up the issue above which isn't OwnCloud specific? :p
I'm just the dumbass that forgot the instruction to not update anything else until further notice.:rolleyes::D

Want to move it to another thread is fine by me. I just need help getting those fsck template re-installed from somewhere without blowing everything up and starting again/recovering.

So my templates are still MIA after a Fresh Install and db restore. I'm guessing now that something is FUBAR'ed in the DB?
