It looks like FreeNAS and TrueNAS is not detecting PCIe drives. The following was tested in our lab at Supermicro.
FreeNAS-11.3-U4
TrueNAS-12.0-MASTER-202006220424
TrueNAS-12.1-MASTER-202007280438
TrueNAS-12.0-BETA2 2020/08/11
SATA was detected by all but not PCIe.
FreeBSD-12.1-RELEASE-amd64 does detect PCIe NVMe.
